There were many things that went wrong on our wedding day. Things go wrong during all events and every single wedding. Watching the videos and looking at pictures has made me remember some of these “wrongs”. For humor and documentation purposes I wanted to write them down so I didn’t forget.
THINGS THAT WENT WRONG
- The day before the wedding….I may have passed out immediately after the rehearsal. Whoops. It’s a long story and my friend Angela tells it beautifully. It basically involves giving blood immediately before the rehearsal. Honestly…not sure why I did that. It was a terrible idea and I was duly reprimanded by dozens of people. Thankfully- I didn’t get hurt when I fainted. Just kinda awkwardly tumbled backwards into some chairs.
- The most obvious thing that “went wrong” was the weather. This is what everyone remembers. A RANDOM cold and windy front that was brutal. It was cold. No. You don’t understand. It was ridiculously cold. It was 97 degrees the weekend before and 95 the weekend after. The day of my wedding? It was 47 degrees with high winds. Most of my guests were amazing though and put on brave faces and loved us by celebrating in blankets! We are accustomed to warm weather year-round so it shocked everyone.
- We found out last minute one bridesmaid bouquet was missing. This was only a temporary problem because my videographer became a florist real quick, found roses and made another bouquet. To this day, I’m not sure what one she made from the pictures!
- One rude and incredibly hurtful guest took time to point out all the mistakes that happened during the ceremony. Even adding, “You need more practice planning events” remark. Ouch.
- We had a very small budget and paid cash for everything. We ran out of food and some of the decorations were cheesy and not what I envisioned.
- My DJ showed up without the music I prepared for walking down the isle. True story. I mailed him the disc weeks earlier and he
- My DJ makes the list twice, because he also ignored all repeated and clear directions NOT to play certain music. I asked for 40s and 50s music. He played random and anything but my requests. He was additionally rude to my guests. I had written instructions not to play anything from the Bee Gees or the Chicken Dance. Completely ignored and played both. My newest brother-in-law, John, took care of him and got him in order real quick. (Also – two weeks later he asked me to give him a recommendation to another bride. I certainly did speak with her but he wasn’t hired.)
But ya know what? Who cares?
ON THAT DAY
On THAT day, Noah decided to marry me. Me!
On THAT day, I was surrounded by my closest and most dearest friends in the whole world.
On THAT day, I became a wife. A job and responsibility I dearly love.
On THAT day, I was walked down the isle by two of my favorite men in the whole world.
On THAT day, we were given the privilege of being married by one of our best friends.
I could go on much more on everything that went right. The things that went wrong were just silly. Some funny, some hurtful but all meaningless when compared to the gift I received April 25, 2009.
Marriage is hard and it reveals every ounce of selfishness in your life. I love being a wife. Noah is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I’d take all the “wrong” that day all over again.
It was the best day ever!
